Chairmaker, teacher, and researcher Robell Awake crafts chairs that center on Black aesthetic traditions and histories through craft. This chair, the Quilt Back Poynor Chair No. 1, reflects the craft traditions of Richard Poynor. Using Poynor’s green woodworking techniques, Awake crafted this chair to honor his legacy and fight back against craft histories that ignored Black makers.
